“Economical Production of Carbon Capture Materials”
Brian Roehrich works in Professor Yet-Ming Chiang’s lab, where he is developing chemical processes to tackle climate challenges. He earned a BS in chemistry from the University of California, Davis, where he worked with Professor Frank Osterloh, and a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara, advised by Professor Lior Sepunaru. His undergraduate and graduate research focused on electrochemical processes for renewable energy conversion.
At MIT, Brian aims to apply chemical processes to solve climate challenges. He is developing a process that produces materials capable of scrubbing carbon dioxide directly from the air. The approach simultaneously co-produces several valuable commodities, opening a pathway to economically viable carbon capture. As a Kavanaugh Fellow, he is working to scale up the process and develop a business plan for successful commercialization.
